Oh my…this should be fun… 51st annual Terlingua Chili cook-off. Big Bend National park is 15-30 minutes away from the town. Here’s the basic plan, more detail will come as we get closer. We will primitive camp in town with all the other thousands of peeps attending. Enjoy the Cook-off festivities at night and plan on day hikes into Big Bend during the day. The drive to Terlingua is 10-11 hours I’m planning on Wednesday and Sunday being drive days. Thursday, Friday and Saturday taking in the region and local festivities. Here’s my understanding of this event. There are two cook-offs going on at once you could say mild and wild. One cook off is mild and about chili, catching up with and making new friends. The other is kinda wild, with crazy people drinking in the desert and chili. Your choice or a “lil of both… Big Bend has 58 day hikes from 1-13 miles. Plenty to do on this adventure and opportunity’s to just chill if you wish.
Facilities include porta-potties thats about it. Find some ground and make camp. Don’t plan on trees if your a hammock person. I’m posting this very early so you can make plans on attending. Here’s the event website http://www.abowlofred.com/ Big Bend website https://www.nps.gov/bibe/index.htm
